SCA acknowledges and pays respect to the Gadigal people of the Eora Nation, the traditional owners and custodians of the land on which the University of Sydney is built and on which I work. I also acknowledge the Wodi Wodi people, who are a part of the Dharawal Nation in Wollongong as the traditional custodians of the land on which I live and also work. I acknowledge the elders past, present and emerging. Sovereignty has never been ceded. It always was and always will be, Aboriginal land.
This website contains works for a pop-up exhibition of site-specific artworks intended initially for the new SCA campus to accompany the Birds and Language Conference (19 — 20 August 2021), The University of Sydney. These works would have been displayed alongside vitrines of taxidermy birds and other bird artefacts once used as pedagogical tools for students learning to become science teachers. Many of the works critique systems that order, classify and categorise nature to exploitative ends.
