Felix Cehak, In the Wilderness (Tamborine), 2021, super 8 diptych, 38 second loop.
In the Wilderness (Tamborine) captures the mimicry of an Albert’s Lyrebird in the named area. A diptych orientation displays imagery of the species imitated in synchronisation with the Lyrebird’s version. Contrary to the fanciful bush Apocrypha of imitation chainsaws and car alarms, the male Lyrebird's display is a highly choreographed sequence of purely non-anthropogenic sounds; bird calls arranged into a repeating sequence. The looping component of the work formally responds to, and in turn, mimics the bird’s repetition.
